STARGATE UNIVERSE – Robert Carlyle to star leading role in the latest adventure in the Stargate franchise

Award-winning Scottish actor Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting, The Full Monty) has been cast in the leading role of Dr. David Rush on SCI FI’s highly anticipated new original series, Stargate Universe, the latest adventure in the Stargate franchise produced by MGM television. Production will begin in Vancouver in February ’09 with an eye toward a summer 2009 premiere. Additional casting is currently underway.

Gee Nicholl, Supporter of Academy Screenwriting Program

Gladys E. (Gee) Nicholl, a long-time benefactor of media-related activities and the widow of television writer-producer Don Nicholl, died on January 6 in Santa Barbara after a short illness. She is best known for her support of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Don and Gee Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting Program.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE, the 22nd James Bond adventure, has taken in over $ 167.1 million to become the most successful Bond film of all time in North America, surpassing the $167 million grossed domestically by Casino Royale, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, chairman of Sony Pictures Worldwide Marketing and Distribution. The film is still playing in 891 theaters in the United States.
